Gemstone Spotlight: Chalcedony

Nov 10, 2017
Our Polki collection exclusively features large stones of Chalcedony with hammered, sterling silver finishings. Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline form of silica that is composed of intertwined quartz and moganite. It's actually fluid in the way it forms itself, it can be found in the center of geodes but can also be formed by completely replacing organic materials with its own chemical makeup like petrified wood and coral. It can be found in a variety of colors but most purely it is white or blue. We decide to use the blue hues of Chalcedony because it is a striking, rich color that is opaque yet becomes shimmered when cut and it really is different than any of the other stones we use for more pieces in our lines.
